Friends in HIGH places

To my delight, I was able to have a video visit with a Surgeon last Thursday.  She agreed with the Oncologist that the cancer is inoperable right now because it is so large and too close to vital blood vessels.  The very next day, my case was presented at a Liver Tumor Board at the medical center.  Specialists in liver tumors discussed and recommended various treatments.  They agreed that a type of targeted radiation therapy (called SBRT) would be best.  On April 19, I will be seeing a doctor that does this procedure, which is said to have the lowest risk of surrounding tissue damage and the fewest side effects.  If may take some months, but if it is successful, it is possible that surgery could be done in the future, which could have the best outcomes.

My case will also be presented at another Tumor board that focuses on the Gastrointestinal system, since there is still a very remote possibility that the primary tumor could have originated in the stomach.  I will be having another test to examine this possibility.  If the origin of the cancer is found they may also recommend a specific chemotherapy (medicine) to add to my treatment plan.

This is very humbling to me!  My niece helped push this along - faster than I expected.  And, all these experts are thinking about my case and making suggestions!  Not only do I have friends in high places, I have Friends in (really) HIGH places.

Hope you enjoy this oldie but goodie from the 90's, by Larnelle Harris - based on Hebrews 12:1-2, I think.

I've got hope when things look bad And I can smile when I should be sad
I've got friends who lift me up when I'm feeling low And they watch over me wherever I may go

Chorus: I've got friends in high places - So high but not so far away
I've got friends in high places - And I'm gonna be with them someday

There's the Father right by His Son - And the angels, each and everyone
And other friends I miss so much and I long to see - But knowing I'll be with them one day comforts me

Chorus

Why should I run - Why should I hide - What's there to fear - When my friends are on my side?
